Q: When was The Senior’s Choice started?
A: The Senior’s Choice was founded by Steve Everhart in 1999 as an alternative to the traditional franchises, and since then, we’ve grown into the largest network of independent senior care companies in North America. We are currently looking to expand Member companies into all 50 States and Canada. |
Q: How quickly is the Senior Care industry growing?
A: With folks living longer (yet not necessarily healthier), and with the 70 million Baby Boomers reaching senior status, Senior Care is one of the fastest growing industries and will continue to grow rapidly over the next 10-20 years. In 2003, Americans spent roughly $44 billion on out-of-pocket/private pay in-home senior care services, and this number is expected to increase (Source: Georgetown University) – creating an enormous long-term opportunity for business owners. Currently, demand for services outstrips the ability of providers to meet that demand, and future demand will continue to increase. |
Q: Why is the Senior Care industry considered “recession resistant”?
A: The Senior Care industry is recession resistant for three major reasons:
- For most seniors (and their children and spouses), the services that The Senior’s Choice Members provide are not optional – they are absolutely necessary to maintaining their independence and to avoid the move to a nursing home, long term care facility, or moving in with children.
- We have a rapidly aging population. The 85+ age group is the fastest growing segment of the population. And the Baby Boomers are beginning to reach retirement age, meaning they will require our Members’ services in the near term.
- Our population is living longer than ever before – but is not necessarily very healthy. The longer they live, the greater they will depend on care to remain living at home. The growing diabetes epidemic and the increasing number of seniors afflicted with Alzheimer’s and related dementia (over 5.3 million and growing, with direct and indirect costs for their care being $148 billion/year, per the Alzheimer’s Organization.) mean that seniors and baby boomers have an increasing need for in-home care and assistance.

Q: Why start a business in this economic climate?
A: While we are bombarded with bad economic news we shouldn’t forget the positive aspects. Interest rates, for instance, are at decade lows. Qualified employees are easier to find. Prospective competitors may have "reigned in" their efforts. In short, much of what people are afraid of can actually be an opportunity!

Q: What do you mean by the “un-franchise” solution? How is The Senior’s Choice different from a traditional franchise?
A: The Senior’s Choice is unique because:
- We charge A Flat Monthly Fee – Not a Percentage of Gross Revenues.
- Members establish their Individual Brand Identity.
- Members sign No Long-Term Contracts.

Q: How do I know if The Senior’s Choice opportunity is right for me?
A: The unique structure and benefits of The Senior’s Choice allow you to own a business (your business – not “our business” that you are helping us build, as is the case with franchises) that is financially lucrative, has long-term growth opportunities, and can flourish under any economic condition. If this sounds good to you – and you want to do something meaningful and make a difference in the lives of others – then the senior in-home care industry is right for you. |
Q: How do I know if I can afford it?
A: While The Senior’s Choice boasts a modest initial entry fee, and there is no net-worth requirement, anyone considering investing in a particular business should consider how much money you have to invest, your abilities and your goals. Things to consider include your initial investment, available liquid capital, whether you're going it alone or with partners, whether you need financing, whether you view your business as a full-time or part-time business, and so on. Pay close attention to the startup capital involved. Our FDD (Franchise Disclosure Document) will spell out these costs. The FDD should be studied at length. Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask questions! |
Q: Will The Senior’s Choice provide me with adequate training, help and support?
A: Even though The Senior’s Choice charges its Members only a small flat monthly fee (NOT a percentage of gross royalty fee, like those tradition franchises out there), we still provide the best and most comprehensive support around. In fact, the extensive support that The Senior’s Choice provides to its Members is second-to-none. You receive an initial 4-day training retreat where you learn all aspects of the business and the tools and resources that are available to you. After training, you’ll have ongoing, one-on-one access to your dedicated Member Trainer and Coach, who will provide solutions to problems, answer questions, and help you strategize and achieve your goals. In addition, support is available by phone and email during normal business hours. The Senior’s Choice also hosts regularly scheduled regional “next-level” educational and networking events, as well as an annual conference. Members are also encouraged to network actively with one another to benefit from each other’s knowledge and expertise. The Senior’s Choice has facilitated that through a highly functional and utilized List Serve/Member Forum. |
