Welcome to another edition of CHOICES, the hands on guide to growing your private duty business. We have some exciting news to announce this month: the release of SafeSenior, our proprietary telephone monitoring device that provides well-being and medication reminder calls to seniors and others in need. This dynamic, low-cost tool will help private duty owners grow their businesses and will provide added safety and security to their clients and peace of mind to their loved ones. Read all about SafeSenior and its benefits in our feature story. Plus, there’s plenty more interesting news in this month’s issue, including a double helping of sage-like advice from our forward-thinking philosopher Steve Everhart. It seems that Steve’s recent words of wisdom have been so prescient lately that, unable to choose between them, we decided you should hear both. Steve’s extra helping of advice is below, while his other words of wisdom can be found in his Deep Thoughts column. Read them both at the risk of blowing your mind: it did ours. – The Editors

"On the day of President Barack Obama’s inauguration last month, I’m sure many of you were tuned in to the coverage on TV. It was undoubtedly an exciting time and a monumental time in history. Many of you are hopeful and excited about the future, but several folks I’ve spoken with are also feeling quite a bit of uncertainty about what to expect in the coming year, especially in the midst of war and financial crisis. I heard someone say that when written in Chinese the word “crisis” is composed of two characters: one represents danger and the other represents opportunity. Now I don’t know if this is true, but I do believe that your perspective in times like these is what makes the difference. Are you looking out for danger or are you keeping your eyes open for opportunity? I believe that if you focus on opportunity you will find that more will come your way. Good luck and best wishes to all of you in 2009." – Steve Everhart
